Modern Custom Pergola

Finding a cool, shady spot on a hot day is always a delight. A pergola, deriving its name from Latin meaning 'projecting eave', serves as an ideal structure for creating such shaded areas. Typically, these structures are adorned with climbing plants or vines, adding a natural touch.

It's conceivable that pergolas have been around since the times of Abraham or Moses. Recently, we were tasked with crafting a contemporary pergola, choosing a striking combination of wood and metal. The design was particularly eye-catching, with the decision to let the metal I-beam naturally rust, adding a unique patina to the project.

This modern pergola was designed to replace an older one, which had issues with snow and ice build-up during winter due to its height level with the roof eave. We recognized the need for a structure that would accommodate snow and ice movement beneath it, while still providing sufficient shade in summer.

By modeling the sun's trajectory in the backyard, we developed a gently curving design for the pergola. Fondly nicknamed the "Starship Enterprise" by the owner, this project was not only enjoyable to work on but also earned us a national Residential Specialty award, a testament to our commitment to aesthetically superior and functional building projects.
